The SEAL Carrier operates submerged in a fully flooded state and can also assume a semi-submerged mode with a long endurance and a limited signature.
Submarines are still mainly designed for a torpedo war, while the operational environment has been changed; importance of intelligence commissions has increased. Many operations demand an underwater craft. There are different solutions to attach an external vessel to the submarine for instance in a container on the deck. An even better way is to transport the vessel inside a torpedo tube, due to the non-effect of the hydrodynamics of the submarine.
The Pleasure SEAL is a high performance civilian SDV, designed for commercial purposes and carries two (optionally one) divers with equipment. It allows speeds up to 4 knots with a range of 8 NM and in a maximum depth of 25 m.
To achieve the increased security levels in ports against terrorist attacks it has become necessary to inspect both harbour facilities and visiting "ships" hulls beneath the waterline. To achieve this in a time-effective yet still qualitative manner the need for a new vessel with unique performance characteristics is evident.
The SUB SEAL project is still in early stage. We will update continuously with progress and pictures! |
